Did you know, our neighborhood has a team playing the Cool Choices energy efficiency game as part of the city of Madison’s Green Madison initiative, and there’s still time for other teams to join this game?
The game provides daily useful tips on home energy conservation with links to relevant web sites, such as “set home computers to “sleep” after 10 minutes,” and in most cases only requires the player to acknowledge (and thus learn from) the tip – rather than implement it – to receive points in the game. While helping residents to save energy and win prizes, participation in the game helps the city in its quest to win the Georgetown University Energy Prize of $5 million. See GreenMadison.org for details.
The current team in VNA, the BTU Busters, is composed of residents on Van Hise Ave: Ryan Browne, Larry Hubbard, George Klasek, Dan Sage, and John Stolzenberg. As of October 9, the team was in 64th place out of 160 teams, with 41 actions viewed or taken. By comparison, the 2 teams tied for 1st place have 78 actions to date.
How about having more teams from our neighborhood? It only takes 5 people to form a team, and the registration is easy, starting at GreenMadison.org. The game is informative and easy to play; ask one of the BTU Busters what they think of it!
