Make a difference in the City of Madison!
City of Madison officials will hold the first ever “Access to Power” Civic Forum on Wednesday, October 26, at the Madison Urban League, 2222 South Park Street from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The forum will assist Madison residents as they work to become more involved in city government as well as provide information regarding the State’s Voter ID law.
Attendees will meet with City Alders, officials from the City Clerk’s Office and the Department of Civil Rights, as well as leaders of city commissions, committees and boards as they learn more about involvement in municipal government.
Mayor Paul Soglin said, “This forum is a great opportunity to learn more about how to engage with officials and Alders and also how to get directly involved, by serving on a city commission or committee. We are always looking for fresh and new ideas. It is an important opportunity to learn more about the new State Voter ID law, how it will affect the upcoming elections in the city and how to be prepared so your vote will count.”
There are nearly 100 City Commissions and Committees in Madison with several hundred residents involved in reviewing city policies and procedures and assisting the Common Council and the Mayor in making decisions. This will be an opportunity to learn more about those groups and provide an opportunity for citizens to gauge their interest in serving.
At this very crucial time in Wisconsin history as everyone learns more about the Voter ID Law and how it affects your ability to vote, information is essential. Those attending will also have an opportunity to register to vote and to learn what forms of ID you need to take to the polls. Attendees will also be able to be trained and deputized so they are able to register others to vote.
The session is scheduled from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on October 26th at the Urban League. For additional information, contact the Madison Department of Civil Rights at 608-266-5916.
