Goodman’s Jewelers to sponsor the first 500 kids through the gates
Madison Parks is excited to announce that Goodman Pool, 325 Olin Avenue, will open for the season on Friday, June 10, noon-7p.m. To honor the pool benefactors, Irwin and Robert Goodman, the first official day of the swimming season has been named “Goodman Day.”
Goodman’s Jewelers, 220 State Street, will be sponsoring the day by providing free admission to the first 500 kids to come to the pool that day.
“Goodman’s Jewelers is proud to sponsor this event at the Madison Parks Goodman Pool in honor of Irwin and Robert Goodman,” says John Hayes, owner of Goodman’s Jewelers.
Irwin and Bob Goodman were long-time supporters of many organizations in Madison, including Madison Parks. Their donation of $2.8 million for the construction of the pool was needed impetus to get a pool built in Madison. Even after the pool was built, they continued to support it by establishing a scholarship fund. Hundreds of children, regardless of their income level, have learned how to swim at Madison Parks Goodman Pool.
“Madison Parks was fortunate to have friends like Irwin and Robert Goodman. The Goodman Foundation continues to support the Goodman Pool Scholarship program which provides funding to hundreds of youth each summer,” says Kevin Briski, Madison Parks Superintendent. “We are thankful to Goodman’s Jewelers in following in Irwin & Robert’s generous spirit by sponsoring the first 500 kids to come through the gate on Goodman Day at the pool.”

Established in 1933 by Bob and Irwin Goodman, Goodman’s Jewelers is Madison’s oldest full service jewelry store. In 1998 long-time employee John Hayes purchased Goodman’s Jewelers from the Goodman Brothers.
